HEARTSAVER
AED
This course is certified by the Irish Heart
Foundation and the American Heart
Association
Who should attend?
Anybody who wishes to learn how to operate
an Automated External Defibrillator and how
to perform CPR can attend this training
course. Prior first aid training is not
necessary.
Course content and duration
Candidates learn how to recognise the signs
and symptoms of Cardiac Arrest and Choking.
Upon course completion candidates will be
fully competent in the operation of an AED,
Adult CPR, and the treatment of a choking
patient.
The Heartsaver AED course is delivered over
4 hours. Additional modules such as
Paediatric Life Support, oxygen therapy, and
airway management can also be added if
required. The maximum number of candidates
per instructor is 6 as strongly recommended
by the IHF.
This ensures that each candidate receives
personnel tuition, and constantly performs
the required skills ensuing confidence in
the candidate.
The Instructor
The course Instructor(s) will be an
Emergency Medical Technician (Paramedic) who
will also be registered as a Basic Life
Support (BLS) Instructor with the Irish
Heart Foundation and the American Heart
Association. Safety-Tec only use
professional Paramedics as instructors, we
do not use local volunteers with no
professional experience/qualifications. This
means that the training we deliver is of the
highest possible, professional standard.
Text books/Certification
All candidates will receive a copy of the
American Heart Association Heartsaver AED
textbook and an interactive CD-ROM. This is
a requirement of the IHF to enhance the
learning process. Successful candidates will
be issued with an IHF/AHA course completion
card which is valid for 2 years. This
ensures that the candidate receives
international certification recognised
worldwide.
