PAEDIATRIC BASIC LIFE SUPPORT COURSE This course is certified by the Irish Heart Foundation and the American Heart Association. This course is designed for members of the community, teachers, parents of Infants and Children, day care personnel, crèche staff, child minders, Montessori teachers and parents of high risk infants and children. Course objectives To provide information on the causes and prevention of injury to infants and children. To instruct candidates in child/infant CPR, and first aid for choking infants and children. Course content: Theory section: Causes of Cardiac and Pulmonary Arrest Heart and Lung anatomy and function Prudent Heart living Infant and child safety Safety overview Safety lecture Injury prevention Infant and child safety Chain of survival Practical section: Child one- rescuer CPR Child foreign body airway obstruction (FBAO) partial and complete: Conscious Becomes unconscious Unconscious Infant one-rescuer CPR Infant foreign body airway obstruction (FBAO) partial; and complete: Conscious Becomes unconscious Unconscious Recovery position - infant and child. Textbooks/Certification: Textbook of Paediatric Basic Life Support Irish Heart Foundation Resuscitation Guide Candidates will be issued with a course participation card which is valid for two years Instructor: The course Instructor will be an Irish Heart Foundation BLS Instructor.
